About our History
Theta Chi Epsilon was organized in 1940 and chartered in 1941 as the first sorority at Michigan Technological University. Its purpose was to broaden female students' interests in addition to their regular courses of study. An archery team and a rifle team were set up for the girls by Sgt. Mount. In 1945, the retired Sergeant and his wife supervised the sorority house at 218 Blanche Street.

In 1950, the members voted to go inactive in order to reorganize to accommodate the tripling enrollment of women at Michigan Tech. In 1957, Theta Chi Epsilon was reactivated with the goal to create unity among the co-eds at Michigan Tech. A Beta chapter was organized at Lake Superior State University, but eventually went inactive. Theta Chi Epsilon went inactive a second time in 1960 due to the war and a lack of interest.
The Theta Guys were founded in 1979 and were mostly boyfriends and friends of the sisters. They were eventually dissolved, but were formed again in 2005 to continue a fun tradition.
Previously, Theta Chi Epsilon had considered going national with Zeta Tau Alpha. The offer was declined, however, in order to keep the traditions that we still practice today.
